Tip of the Day
One of the most common errors I have made and continue to see other people make in home games, online and even on tv, is overvaluing suited cards.
The short of it is this: If 2 cards are not worth playing unsuited, then being suited really doesn't make them any better. The reason is because of the likely hood of hitting a nut flush when you are making a decision before the flop.
Here are some other people who explain this theory.
Before Friday, I will be posting some stuff about the differences between cash game and tournament strategy. Those of you who like to see flops for cheap are in for a treat.

DECEMBER CASH GAME
Hey Everyone,
Thanks to Jenn for hosting the November game. Unfortunately, a miscommunication about date deprived us of Colin and Tracey.
December's game will be on the 2nd. We will be playing a casual 5 cent 10 cent cash game. Just like in our regular tournaments, there is no rake, so all money invested will be paid out to the players when they cash out. In terms of league rankings, it will be very straight forward.
The buy-in for the game is $5. You can rebuy, top up or cashout any time you want. At the end of the evening, we tally up your overall +/- and determine the order of finish for points.
There are a few special advantages to this format...
- The blinds never go up.
- If you want to step out for a while, you won't be dealt into hands (but if you miss a blind while you are gone, you have to post it or wait to be BB before getting a new hand)
- You can decide to be done for the night anytime you want.
- Cash game rules are in affect. If you are in a big hand and you want to run it more than once, no problem.
This is still regular Texas Hold'em, but instead of the usual Vegas style tournament experience, you get a Vegas style cash game experience. It should be a fun night. We plan to start at the usual time (back at our house this month), but since it is a cash game, don't worry if you are late.
See you on December 2nd.

Standings Available Again.
Hey Guys and Gals,
I am not sure what is up with Google Docs, but I still can't embed the standings. Instead, just click the link at the top of the page, and it will show you the standings as a web page.
See you at the end of the week.

Stats Problem
With the shifting of my personal email to a gmail account, I have run into some problems. For the moment I can not publish my Google Docs file of the our league standings. I will find a solution.

Democratic Process
Swept up in the excitement of the upcoming Federal election, we decided to let the players decide on May's game. Although Omaha was the scheduled game, players at the April tournament were asked to vote between Omaha and another NLHE Rebuy. Most people were in favor of the Rebuy, so that will be the May event.
June 25th has been set as the date for the Main Event. Please keep in mind that the ME has a 12 noon start time so please arrive by 11:45. We will have snacks and will be BBQ'ing for the dinner break.
The traditional awards for best hand, bad beat, bubble boy/girl, and POTY will be given out.
Finally, I will try to put up some videos frm time to time that explain questions that come up from time to time. Sometimes you will hear players (usuallt Colin and I) talking about what were the percentages of hitt a card on the turn or the river. This is a goo thing to know if you are drawing to a big hand, or if you think your opponent is drawing to a big hand.
Here, Gus Hansen explains the Rule of 4 and 2.
See you soon.

Spring Poker
For those following along at home, we now have some up to date stats.
February's game was cancelled at the last minute, because Evelyn had to spend some time in the hospital with pneumonia. With the interruptions to the schedule and the poor advertisement of March's game, we decided not to award points for this month. The game was NL 5 card draw, and I cleaned house, with Gerry and Deb cashing as well.
On April 15th, we will return to NLH. We will also conduct a poll to determine the game for the month of May. As usual, the Main Event in June will be a Saturday afternoon and evening affair with deep stacks and low blinds.
See you in April.
