Tip of the Day

One of the most common errors I have made and continue to see other people make in home games, online and even on tv, is overvaluing suited cards.

The short of it is this: If 2 cards are not worth playing unsuited, then being suited really doesn't make them any better. The reason is because of the likely hood of hitting a nut flush when you are making a decision before the flop.

Here are some other people who explain this theory.

Before Friday, I will be posting some stuff about the differences between cash game and tournament strategy. Those of you who like to see flops for cheap are in for a treat.

DECEMBER CASH GAME

Hey Everyone,

Thanks to Jenn for hosting the November game. Unfortunately, a miscommunication about date deprived us of Colin and Tracey.

December's game will be on the 2nd. We will be playing a casual 5 cent 10 cent cash game. Just like in our regular tournaments, there is no rake, so all money invested will be paid out to the players when they cash out. In terms of league rankings, it will be very straight forward.

The buy-in for the game is $5. You can rebuy, top up or cashout any time you want. At the end of the evening, we tally up your overall +/- and determine the order of finish for points.

There are a few special advantages to this format...

  1. The blinds never go up.
  2. If you want to step out for a while, you won't be dealt into hands (but if you miss a blind while you are gone, you have to post it or wait to be BB before getting a new hand)
  3. You can decide to be done for the night anytime you want.
  4. Cash game rules are in affect. If you are in a big hand and you want to run it more than once, no problem.
This is still regular Texas Hold'em, but instead of the usual Vegas style tournament experience, you get a Vegas style cash game experience. It should be a fun night. We plan to start at the usual time (back at our house this month), but since it is a cash game, don't worry if you are late.

See you on December 2nd.

Standings Available Again.

Hey Guys and Gals,

I am not sure what is up with Google Docs, but I still can't embed the standings. Instead, just click the link at the top of the page, and it will show you the standings as a web page.

See you at the end of the week.
